What USB devices have you used in your T4x computer whose USB ports failed?

T4x series USB problems (Survey)

#1 Post by Thinkpaddict » Fri Sep 09, 2005 12:24 pm

Hi,

I have read some posts of people having their USB ports in their T4x computers fail (revert to 1.0, or simply stop functioning). I have a theory that this might be because of trying to run non-self-powered USB devices that require more power from the USB ports than it can handle.

So, I'm setting up this small survey to see if there is some correlation here.
I'm getting a T41p and I would like to avoid (if possible) any hardware problems. If you had your USB ports go bad, your participation is welcome!

Also, let me know if I should change the options in the survey for some reason.

This happened to me with a USB 2.0 external HD, which reverted to 1.0, but I think it was related to the hub: it would sometimes happen when I unplugged the hub and plugged it back in. I've since replaced the hub and it hasn't happened since (fingers crossed!).

Was the hub passive, or did it have a power supply (if such a thing even exists)? I am assuming the HD had its own power supply, right?

I hope your Thinkpad remains trouble free from now on.

I haven't had any failures, but I did have to update the usb drivers after doing a fresh install using Windows update before I got full functionality. I have hooked up an external dvd bruner, a usb external hard dive and .mp3 player without any problems.
