Help RE T21 Screen not working and how to dismantle

#1 Post by lemonfresh » Sat Sep 10, 2005 7:45 am

I am currently tying to fix my Dads T21 which has recently had problems with the screen.

Apparently for a while the screen would not not work when turned on unless you moved the lid back and forth in a certain way, and now eventually it has stopped woking altogether. I wonder if anyne has any ideas, to me initially it sounds like it might be a dodgy connection between the screen and the laptop.

I have removed the obvious screws but cant work out how to get inside the laptop, and wondered if anyone knew where i might find a guide on how to take the case off,

Also if anyone has any ideas of what the problem may be, that would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks in advance

Mike

Hello,

I think this might be caused by either a loose connection between the ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the motherboard, or by a deffect in the cable itself.

You can take some pieces of the T21 appart. You need the Hardware Maintenance Manual. Download it here:

Good luck with it.

Ok so i have taken the case off altohugh i did not take apart the lcd assembly entirely,

i now get an image on the screen put there is no light shining, so the image is too dark to see, its like he ghost of an image. I think therefore the backlight is not coming on

I wonder if this is controlled by a cable that i may have knocked loose, or if it is something more complex

If anyone has had a similar problem etc id be grateful of any clues
