Number of Recovery CDs made?
Number of Recovery CDs made?
Are the number of recovery CDs the same across a model?
I have a T43 2686M5U. The recovrey software made 1 startup and 5 backup discs. Is this a typical number?

Ok, so there isn't a consistent number. I would have thought that if a certain model has a preconfigured setup, it would always generate the same number of discs.
I immediately made the recovery CDs before adding any software.
Well, I hope my recovery CDs will work.
Thanks for your anecdotes.

How long ago was this? I thought the free days were over.Kyocera wrote:You can order a set for your system from ibm, they are free if you are still under warranty. I called tech support and talked to a guy and basically asked if I could get a set. They came the next day, I did call before ten a.m.

You must have really good luck, I tried to get the cd's this morning and was told I will have to buy them.Kyocera wrote:About a month ago. I swear I have had nothing but good luck with the service from IBM, from a lemon t42 that was replaced immediately to all the other stuff I have ordered, ram, hd, fru's, etc. It is still under warranty.

Wait, something's wrong. I got my comp a little over 30 days ago, which means its definitely under warranty still. Yet, when I called them, they said that the reovery CDs cost $45....? Some have said that the recovery CDs are free? Can anyone enlighten me here?

Did you talk to tech support? My machine is still under warranty, so I guess it was the right tech support guy and the right time. Sometimes I get to running my mouth and they probably just want to get me off the phone..

I got from IBM: 1 CD for an A22e (Windows 2000), 2 CD's for a T23 (Windows XP Pro), 3 CD's for a T30 (XP Pro), 4 CD's for my NetVista A30 (XP Pro) and 5 CD's for my T41 (XP Pro).
You only get one chance on a T42 or better to build recovery CD's. I don't know what happens if they fail (and fail, they do, for a certainty). I think it is a wise investment to pay IBM for the CD's. In fact, I think it is a wise investment to try them (for fail, they do), so you need to do it early in the game when you are willing to format your PC and perhaps have it out of action. Else, get an inexpensive hard drive (eBay) and try recovery on that. When you need it, you will want it to work.
