Question about DVD-ROM drive on T40

#1 Post by Sudevan » Sun Sep 11, 2005 12:08 pm

I just joined this forum, so hello to all.

I'm waiting to receive a second-hand T40 that I just bought. It was listed as having a DVD-ROM drive. I have two beginner's questions:

First, The seller said I would need decoding software to play DVD movies -- can anyone recommend a specific program? ( I have heard Mediamatics is supposed to work with the T40, but I am entirely new to this machine).

Second, despite the seller's listing the optical drive as a DVD-ROM, could this actually be a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive? What I'd like to find out is whether T40s were ever sold with just DVD-ROM drives -- it seems as though a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive was standard equipment with the T40. Again, I am looking for the well-informed to set me straight on this.

Cheers,

If the laptop comes with the preload, it will have WinDVD installed. Yes, some T40's came with a DVD only drive.

You might want to consider PowerDVD.

PowerDVD gets my vote also...
The oem version is widely available on the net /approx. $6+s&h
When uninstalling WinDVD ..
I take care to leave all 'common' or 'shared' files on the machine...(There are several)
(I use Windows Add/Remove programs, in contol panel, for the uninstall...)
