T43p 2668-Q2U Questions

#1 Post by keku » Mon Sep 12, 2005 12:27 pm

I ordered T43p 2668 Q2U on Saturday, sales rep said it will take 15 days. estimated delivary shown on website till sunday 10/3
Today it is changed to 10/18.

Questions :

Can you tell me how long it took to delivar T43p 2668 for your guyz??

In Configuration it says 8X multi burner .. is it true??
Before this model it used to be 4x multi burner, or it's just a IBM famous Typo in sepcs???

Does this multi burner support +R -R +RW and -RW ??? what about DL discs???

How reliable is intel a/b/g/ card .... is it comparable to IBM a/b/g. coz I had IBM one that was awesome never had a dropped connection?? or should I just replace the wireless card.

those shipping dates are very fluid..
they TEND to be overly conservative..
AND they are a moving target..

if it SAYS 8x and you don't GET 8 x you can make them give you the 8 x..
usually..

i personally prefer the ibm wifi card over the intel..

my H3U has the IBM and the H2U (with multiburner) has the intel..
who knows why.. probably some chinese cultural thing..
ok, reality, i don't know who makes those decisions or why but if you want the loaded T43p then replace the intel with the ibm (atheros) card.. but only IF the intel causes problems or you want to do some tweaking with atheros chips on the AP and card..
my opinion only..

Thanks Bill :)

IBM supply is very confusing, when I orderd my first thinkpad T43p 2687 EJU they said 3 weeks ... it took about a month, One of my friend liked it and wanted same thing so I sold that to him and orderd another for me (same 2687 EJU) IBM said 2 weeks .. arrived in 4 days..... it was nice but for some reason I started feeling it's getting hot and fan is noisy... so ordered this 2668 Q2U. now it says 10/13 :(

I ordered mine on Aug. 29th and the website displayed an expected ship date of Oct. 6th for several days. Then I received an email stating that the order had shipped on Sep. 7th. Since then, I have tracked it on UPS, and it has traveled from Hong Kong to Japan to Alaska to Kentucky, where it now sits in a warehouse awaiting customs clearance since Sunday, Sep. 11th. So, it appears that the original ship date was extremely over-estimated. Now, if customs would just get their act together ..... :|

Just check your order staus twice a day and you'll likely be pleasantly surprised. My 2668-75U had a ship date four weeks from the order date. It arrived within a week and even cleared customs in Kentucky in one day. Luckily I checked order status regularly otherwise I would have probably missed a couple of delivery attempts.

It's nice it arrives earlier than expected but a pain in the as* that companies like Lenovo cannot give more accurate delivery dates. That said, nothing can be as bad as some of Dell's shipment estimates.

the multi burner support DVD+R, +RW, -R and -RW.
You said it support 4x before? That's weird, I thought there's only one kind of dvd burner for t43 series. and mine only up to 2.24x.

http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_2668Q2U

Look at this link it says 8X ... it's too confusing. just says DVD recordable.
In system page it says CD-RW/DVD-R multiburner. if I look at the part numbers in information it has generalized list of all parts for T43 series, no listing for T43p 2668 Q2U or even Q2x.

I'm worried if this laptop comes with IBM's standard old multiburner .. it's not worth coz old burners can't burn +R formats, and are usually 2X. it has to be new one.

let's see what my laptop has ... it will be here on monday.

Does anybody know if can burn DVDs for Rescue & Recovery rather than burning 6 or 7 Cds.

I'm not talking about data restore, I'm talking about CD images used to boot the system and then restore OS image.

Yes, 1 CD for the Rescue boot disk and 1 DVD for the Image.

If it is the newer multi-burner plus, then it can burn +R/+RW formats, but the speed is only 2.4X and 2X for -R/-RW. The 8X refers to read speed of single layer DVD-ROM. See the user guide for the complete specs:

I don't agree. I think mine is the old one, but it can burn DVD+R @ 2.24x.
Haven't tried DVD-R yet.

According to the tabook, the 2668-C4U has the multi-burner plus (P/N 73P3342) which is the newer burner that supports +R.

Here's the user's guide for the older drive (P/N 73P3294) which says it supports writing -R/-RW and -RAM only.
