Will a Seagate Momentus 100gb HD work in a T42 ?

These seem to be the laptop 7200rpm drives of larger capacity nowadays. Wonder if they're safe in a Thinkpad ? I'm happy with my e7k60 but wouldn't mind making extra room for big files. Hitachi now has an 80gb version, wonder if anyone has used them.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago, and everyone thinks it will. I have a 7200RPM 60GB HD in my T42p now, and it's wonderful and quiet. It should work.

Yes the Hitachi 7k is excellent, it gave extra breath to my old T23. Of course the appeal of some extra 40 gigs in the Seagate can't be overlooked especially for things like capturing video and also to make the hidden partition a less space-stealing one. And maybe with a 2nd HD adapter you could have up to 200 gigs in the Thinkpad.
Let me ask you something since you use a Dock II: does it carry an Ultra Base 2000 like the older Dock or is it a different base ? I ask this because the T4x models use a thinner profile in their swappable drive base so the HD adapter might vary also. BTW, do you know if an old Dock would accept the T42 at all? I have one with my X-31 and would rather keep it instead of spending extra for the Dock II.
Can't wait for using the T42.

It will work. I use it on my t42. the only drawback is battery life. I can only get about 1.5 hours out of my battery after switching. I have tried 4 different t42s with this drive and all have the same result. I can put back my 40Gb and battery life is about 3+ hours. I talked witjh our IBM rep and his answer was the IBM power management probably doesn't know what to do with that drive.
