Well, I think IBM offers software to encrypt certain parts of the harddrive, although I don't know if you can encrypt the whole drive (i.e. including Windows).

There is, however, the option to set a password for the harddrive (which is saved on the harddrive itself) on BIOS/hardware level, so noone should be able to use that drive in another computer without knowing the password.

A simple password won't protect your harddrive if the date on it is not encryptet. Therefore if the data stays unencryptet with the FPR (what i assume), the IBM solution is not convincing.

I have to admit that I'm not a real expert on that, but as far as I know you won't be able to access the password-protected harddrive without disassembling it somehow.

My T42-8ZU is OK. I don't think its fan noise is a problem, because it doesn't run at a high speed frequently.
Current: T400 + Advanced Mini Dock + P27T-6 IPS

[censored] i saw a apple PB the first time, awesome. very haptic, all metal.. could not recognize the fan sound but i would not care if a book looks that good..
