False shipping dates

#1 Post by tyulish » Wed Jun 30, 2004 6:34 pm

My t42 was ordered on june 25 and they said it wouldn't ship until july 20. It turned out that it was shipped on June 30. If you are buying a thinkpad, don't be discouraged by estimation dates:)
thanks everyone for helping me chose my new laptop:)

When I bought mine, they said it was available for immediate shipment on the web page; then when I'd made the order, they gave me an arrival date a month away. I was not happy.

phew.
While shopping online, IBM said that the wait was 15 days to ship. However, when I ordered it yesterday, it said it would ship July 28. I was really confused at frustrated.

Thanks for the heads up.

DO you know if the wait for all t42models? or just non-express models?

Well I bought a preconfigured laptop (non express) through a school deal, and I have to wait until my laptop is no longer top of the line to finally get it :x

You guys need to check with Bill Morrow the host of this forum, he is a reseller and has many models available for immediate shipment. email him at bill@thinkpads.com or check his website for available models. You will likely get the best price around.
Website is www.thinkpads.com
T41p-GEU / T42p-KXU bought from Bill/ T60p-8HU / 4 T400p's and now a T440p

So I take it they don't update the ship date until after the order ships?

If he has it in stock he ships as soon as he has your payment/ with a tracking #.

Believe me--had I known then what I know now: that "available now" means Hong Kong will have one in two weeks, which I can then trace with 179 other laptops to Kentucky, through customs and, eventually, to my door, I would not have done it the way I did. At least I decided not to do overnight shipping! At the time, I thought of all the possible vendors, the manufacturer would be the one most likely to deliver on a promise.

Actually I was talking about IBM's ship dates. How "10 in stock" becomes "Estimated ship date: 8/10."

When I ordered mine, the salesperson told me the orders are automatically put on two day delivery, so thats why I didn't order two day and went with the standard shipping for free.

I think the estimated shipping dates are the upperbounds of when they could be shipped...I guess it's also for a "wow, my laptop shipped 3 months early!" kinda thing. Hehe

I hope it's working out for them. I can just see someone saying, "Wow, 1 month to ship a preconfigured system? I need one for my job next week, I think I'll get a Dell."
