#1 Post by slotsca » Sat Sep 17, 2005 9:41 am

The fan on my T21 will run when it is first turned on but stops as soon as windows starts.and will eventualy shut down due to over heating. I tried updating bios to default setting, No GO does anyone have a suggestion?

Try to download speedfan (google it) and make your fan run at all times to keep things cool. Not the best solution but it beats paying $$$ for a new board.

The fan should only run for a second at boot. The unit is most likely shutting down in 5 - 15 minutes after botting up. Is that correct? It isn't warm enough for the fan to spin. If it is shutting down in that timeframe it is almost always a bad system board.

I have tried a new fan with no different result. I now have it narrowed down to a bad connection, cable or at worse case motherboard.
Thanks for the suggestions, I will post a reply when the problem is solved.

From what you're describing it is a bad board plain and simple. No cable in that laptop will cause the issue. The only thing to "check" would be to make sure the memory / cpu / etc. are securely seated... The only other thing it could be is spyware. Some spyware will power the unit right off.
