Buying decision... need advice

Hi All,

This is my first post on thinkpads.com! I've narrowed my decision to either a refurbished T23 2648EU2 for $560 or a NEW T40 2373Y1B for $1,000. I'll be using it mostly for accounting, tax, and spreadsheet applications as well as the normal web, email, and word processing. Your thoughts and advice are appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Question no. 1: Do you want to carry it around a lot?
If so, and if you need to use your laptop on battery power, the T40 will be a better choice, delivering approx. 4 hours of battery life.
It is also lighter to carry. If you want to use th machine most of the time at your home/ofice, the T23 will perform just fine and might simply be better value for the type of use you intend to put it to.

I think $1000 is enough for getting a T41 or T42, huh?

I'd definetly look on eBay. Make sure you read the fine print and buy from a reputable seller. Someone with lots of positive feedback and who has sold laptops in the past. Keep in mind when buying on the internet there are likely no returns. I bought both of my ThinkPads on ebay at consdirable savings. Good Luck.
