Bluetooth Device Not Found

#1 Post by Chobits » Thu Jul 01, 2004 2:58 am

Hi! I just had my whole operatinf system reinstalled to get rid of the IBM partition and loaded in all the latest drivers from IBM's site. It seems like my T41p can detect the Bluetooth card and install the drivers and all for it. But when i try to access the bluetooth icon it says that device not connected or on. I tried installing it several times over and ensured that my bluetooth is on........but it seems like it cannot detect the bluetooth.... :(

anyone could help on this? Thks!

Cheers~

Check out eriqesque's description here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=478. That solved the problem for me.

I just got a T41P and am having problems. I can turn on bluetooth using the Fn+F5, and my iPAQ can see it, but I can't use any resources on the laptop (I want to ActiveSync.)

I found the instructions on IBM's site that eriqesque had in his post. The problem I have is that step 10 says to choose the one without the Digital Signed icon, but I don't have one of those. So, I search for it and seem to find the one I want (I downloaded the lastest one from IBM). However, I still don't have the My Bluetooth Places icon.

If I now go and run the Setup that came with the latest driver from IBM, I get the My Bluetooth Places icon it says I have no bluetooth device, even if I have turned it on via Fn+F5. Just how hard can this be? All I really need is a way to assign a COM port to the current stack so I can ActiveSync, but I'm stuck. All help is appreciated.

If you don't have the unsigned driver then you probably didn't install IBM's BT software. From the start my T42 didn't have any software for BT installed. Go to start menu, at the IBM tools there is a software for updating the tools & drivers and make sure you have already or will install the Bluetooth stuff. Afterwards you should be able to select the unsigned driver.

I agree this is tedious. As I wrote in another thread, IBM's software configuration capabilities can't keep up to the excellent quality of the hardware.

Yes, that's it... thanks. I finally got it working.

To anyone reading this, what I did was:

- Turn off bluetooth
- Uninstall the existing driver completely
- Install the new driver you download from IBM using the Setup.exe
- Reboot
- Now, install the new driver using Update Driver and selecting the non-signed one
- Turn on bluetooth
and it finally worked... I got a COM port assigned and everything.

Only about 4 hours to get it working...
