Blinking WiFi LED Light - Turn it OFF
Blinking WiFi LED Light - Turn it OFF
Second only to the fan problem comes the (green) LED blinking. This is by the Intel WiFi controller. The LED is on the LED strip located underneath the LCD. This thing blinks enough to put you in an epileptic siezure (not really).
My question is, how can I turn this LED OFF?! I know I can open the Thinkpad up and then do some splicing/cutting/unplugging, but is there another way?
I can't WAIT to get this blinking to stop!

I don't notice it. If you don't use wireless just disable it from within Network Connection in the Control Panel.

You could try not looking at it. Seriously. I use wireless a lot and I just don't notice the light. It seems to me (I'll check later) that if I am wired and Access Connections turns off the radio, then the light doesn't operate.

Later note: If you use Access Connections and set it to turn off the wireless radio when using wired, then the indicator turns off with it. When I am using wireless, I want it there so it all works perfectly for me.

Wirelss light on 2668 Q2U can't be turned off if you are over wireless network ....
it only blinks when there is an wireless network activity.
in IBM a/b/g cards it flashes so rapidly that you feel see light is on and some thing inside light is flashing (bascally light doesn't goes completly off and comes back)
with intel it goes of and then comes back. first I thought some malfunction but I realized that it's not coz I was still connected.
you can turn it off only when you are not using wireless card.

I would suggest to use one of those round stick-on screw covers that IBM uses over the screws on the ThinkPad. Stick cover over lighted icon. If yours is like my T42, there is already one of those round covers about 3/4" to the left, so it really wouldn't stand out very much.
AFAIK there is no way to have it off and use your wireless card simultaineously - short of disconnecting the LED.

My light blinks with traffic (that is irregularly) and I use the IBM card. I would not expect a card change like this to change the indicator behaviour (just like changing the Hard Drive does not change the hard drive indicator behaviour). ... This is one of those problems you never knew you had until someone mentions it. -Especially using the web in dark area. Sorry!

Re: Blinking WiFi LED Light - Turn it OFF
Windows 7 (may work for XP, VIsta....just look for the key. Its not OS specific, its device specific)
Click start, Run, type: regedit
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0011
On right, scroll down to LED mode
Double click LED Mode to change value
Mine had value: 3, continual blinking while on
Value 2, 1 and 0 appear to have same result; stable on unless transmitting, off when radio off.
All I know is, it stopped blinking ALL THE TIME.
