Loss of networking after Sleep/hibernation (and other q's)

#1 Post by Shien » Thu Jul 01, 2004 8:05 am

Hello everyone :)

UPS came a few days ago and I'm now a proud owner of a T42 23743VU (EDU model). It's been mostly a dream so far but I have a few questions:

1. Whenever I close my Thinkpad's monitor or I put it to sleep manually, I seem to lose my connection to the internet after I turn it back on. It's not a total loss because MSN Messenger is still able to log on, but other programs (IE, Firefox, FFXI Online) can't access the internet. Anyone else have this problem or can suggest a fix? I do have a router connected to my DSL modem, but my desktop doesn't seem to suffer from this problem.

2. From what I can see so far, I don't have any dead pixels. However, last night gave me a scare when I saw two pixels that were discoloured. However, after a few more minutes of browsing, they dissapeared by themselves. Is this normal or should I be calling IBM for an RMA?

3. My T42 came with Win XP Pro pre-installed but I see no Win XP Pro installation CD. I do have the serial number that's stuck at the bottom though. Should a Win XP CD come with the laptop? If not, is there anywhere I can download a CD? I have the serial number so that shouldn't pose a problem should it?

Thanks everyone for reading/helping. Even with these quirks, I'm really happy with my purchase so far :)
