Why Thinkpads Rock!

#1 Post by kjarrett » Thu Jul 01, 2004 10:39 am

I realize I'm preaching to the converted here but I just had to post. ;-)

Got a T30 (2366-FBU) on eBay for just over $1,000. 2.2ghz, 256mb RAM, XGA, over 2 years of warranty left. Other than one #$%#%$#@ stuck pixel (bright, thankfully, not very noticeable when most apps are running), the thing is flawless.

The seller was kind enough to set it up for me with a fresh copy of XP Pro and all the IBM utilities, as well as some nice extras. However after using it for a while I decided I wanted to do a bare-drive install myself.

So I popped in the XP Pro CD, and while it was installing, I pulled up the T30 driver matrix on my other PC and grabbed every driver I'd need. Burned them to a CDR and got to work. In about an hour I had the T30 perfectly configured and ready to rock. The Thinkpad Installation utility is fantastic.

IBM's support is second to none. I've used EasyServ in the past with my T21 and have never been dissapointed. The support website is incredible. Everything about my Thinkpad experience has been great from the day I bought my first one.

It is truly amazing to me that people buy anything OTHER than Thinkpads. The price/performance/value is impossible to beat, IMHO.

Go IBM!

i used to think that the thinkpad premium was all due to branding until i got my T20 at close to half the retail price. since then, i've never looked back.

The one on my T30 is the *FIRST* I have ever seen on any Thinkpad in at least 10 years of working with and around computers at work and home. Dead pixels suck, but, what are ya gonna do?

They seem to be more common. I just got a 23733UU and I'm in process of sending it back to IBM due to a dead pixel. I've seen several other people on this forum talking about them. When you spend that kinda dough you shouldn't have to deal with DOA pix! :x

Other than that, they are great machines!
