Help! Scrolls in 1920 x 1200 native resolution on T40p!

#1 Post by oldgromit2005 » Fri Sep 23, 2005 12:08 pm

Hi all,
I got a Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD rently that native resolution on that beauty is 1920 x 1200. HDTV looks phenonemal on it!

I do have a problem with it on my T40p docked on Port Replicator via DVI output. I purchased the LCD based on some info I gathered here. I thought with the latest IBM display driver, it should display in 1920x1200 resolution, right? I used display driver 8.133.2-050525a-024243C, released 2005/08/11.
After I hooked up the LCD, Display property shows I can adjust resolution all the way up to 1920 x 1200, when I did that, it display only portion of the screen and scrolls! just like the card can't display in that resolution :( I tried to tweak ATI control panel , display driver, etc.. but it doesn't work. It's not the monitor since it works fine with my desktop.

Has anyone made their Thinkpads, more specfically T40p, work in 1920 x 1200 resolution without scrolling? I know I can probably try 3rd party driver, but I'd like to stick with IBM driver if possible.

thanks!

I got my regular T40 to display on the Dell 2405w without scrolling. It's been awhile since I last did it but it wasn't too difficult. The only thing I did different from you though was that I used the Catalyst drivers available from the ATI website. I think then on the ATI control panel, you can adjust all the settings.

Hope it all works out. Let us know if you need more help.

Yea I know about Catalyst driver... I'm avoiding them as had bad experience before. Can you provide me a link to it? Thanks! I'll have to try it another try...

anyone got it working with native IBM display driver?

thanks!

Not sure if it makes any difference, but I got my T43p to work with the Dell 2405w using the native IBM driver. With my T40 I believe I was using the Catalyst driver. Can't really recall if I was able to make it work with the IBM driver. The Catalyst driver though was quite stable for me and I never had any major crashes. Don't have the link handy but I'm sure it will pop up on the forum if you do a search.

good luck,

Just curious if you ever got this problem solved.

I have T40p (2373-), using ATI drivers (dated 2/1/2005) with Samsung LCD 213T (native resolution 1600x1200). I have been unable to get the DVI output from my mini-dock to display in native resolution. VGA is out of the question (yuck, fuzzy) and DVI in non-native resolution (1280x1024, with scrolling desktop and less than perfect text) is not so great either.

I've tried the updated ATI "catalyst" drivers. I get an error message during installation saying that the hardware was not found... I tried Omega drivers, and I got a bsod after rebooting. I haven't tried the latest IBM drivers yet.

This is kinda frustrating. I really would like to see clear text on this new monitor. When using a 1280x1024 monitor (like the Dell 1905FP) things are absolutely crystal clear. I wanted and needed a larger desktop but now I am regretting my purchase decision.

If I'm not mistaken, this topic has already been covered here. Just do a quick search and you should find the threads.
