T42 Hard Drive upgrade - PATA V SATA?

#1 Post by NSXMARK » Mon Sep 26, 2005 10:18 am

Hi Guys,

Forgive the newbie question, but I can't figure out if I can get a SATA hard drive to work in my T42. I have a T42 2373-9XU with an 80GB 5400rpm HDD. I want more speed and space, so my plan is to ghost the current 80Gb onto a Hitachi 7k100 7200rpm drive, and then wipe my current one before putting it into an ultrabay slim adapter as a data drive.

So, my question then is can I do this with the SATA version of the Hitachi 7k100, or do I need to get the PATA version? Sorry if this has been covered before - I looked around and couldn't find the answer.

TIA-

AFAIK PATA only on T42.

PATA only. There are no Thinkpads that use SATA.

the new Z series use SATA drives, but everything else uses 2.5" ATA drives (with the exception of the X40 series, which uses 4200rpm 1.8" ATA drives)

try newegg.com - they have lots of good deals on 5400rpm 60 and 80gig 2.5" ATA hard drives.

Unless someone can figure out how to bypass our SATA-PATA bridge...
