Warranty upgrades! What does it mean? What do you get?

#1 Post by tomkit66 » Fri Sep 30, 2005 11:48 am

Sorry, I know this might be a strange question, but I just wanna make sure that I understand what the difference warranty upgrades really mean!

My dealer sold me the [41C9443 - 3 year courier collect - US$ 98.00] telling me that this is the best to get for money.

Now I was trying to find out what this upgrade means and covers since the guy didn´t know himself.

Well, as I thought when he told me that he doesn´t know what the courier collect upgrade really means, there are more upgrades available.

41C9437 - 2 years On-Site Repair - NBD for US$ 111.00
41C9442 - 3 years On-Site Repair - NBD for US$ 162.00

Can someone explain it to me, since I didn´t find an explanation what the On-Site really covers & means?

Thanks in advance
Tom

courier means you get a box (in 1 business day), and ship it to IBM's contactor in Tenn. (overnight), they repair it, and ship it back (overnight). It's basically 3 business days.

On Site means someone comes to you, and does it in front of you.[/b]

Hi and thanks for the reply!

Since I am in Austria/Europe I hope they wouldn´t send it to Tenn. !

Oh well, my dealer said that he can´t imagine that they could offer some On-Site repair. Who would know what spare parts they would have to bring along ...

So no question that I will change the courier upgrade to an on-site for a few bucks regarding that I paid about EUR 3,300.00 for the whole bundle.

Thanks
Tom

From what I've read here, onsite seems to be better in many cases (you can ensure they don't mishandle your beloved laptop). I personally have only used depot repair, and think it stunk (they screwed up during a LCD replacement, I get a replacement computer, which I'm still waiting for). But I'm sure not all experiences were as bad as mine.

I think this time, I'll upgrade to on site if it's available in my area. Not sure what they do in your part of the world (where they ship it to, and who can come on-site).

Okay, okay you convinced me to go with the On-Site option :D

Good luck with your Thinkpad,
Tom
