UK warranty for US Thinkpad.

#1 Post by Michael1980 » Fri Sep 30, 2005 12:47 pm

My Thinkpad T came from the USA and has a valid 3 year warranty, I checked the serial number etc.

But I wonder, what do I have to do to have a UK warranty where I currently work? Do I have to buy a warranty extension?

Thanks

I think the warranty is honored in such a case. Perhaps someone here actually has experience with this. I believe the rule is you can get it serviced where you reside. So you can't be at a hotel and send it for repairs, but you can if you live there for long term business (regardless of being a citizen or anything like that).

Interesting quesiton though. I'd personally just call and ask.

Edit: call tech support using the UK number I guess (if your in the UK now).

Warranty is honored worldwide. Nothing special is needed to do.
Only the optional ThinkPad protection plan that covers accidental damage is only valid for US (and canada?).
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

OK, thanks.
One more question though, I don't have any warranty documents with me and I have never registered the laptop anywhere on the web.
Does the warranty work with just the serial number?

no papers needed. Just the numbers underneath the laptop.

Check IWS(International Warranty Service) eligibility: http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... estyle=ibm

Worldwide Support center phone list: http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4HWSE3 (If you are in need of warranty service)

I have a T40 that was sold in the US. I live in Sweden. I speak from personal experience when I say that they WILL honor the international warranty. At least here in Sweden.

I have only good things to say about IBM warranty service :D
Thinkpad T40 2373-19U, winXP pro. Added: 256MB RAM, Samsung 80GB HDD. Switched mini-PCI wlan module intel 2100 802.11b to Intel 2915 ABG, with 1802 hack :)

I must call IBM CZ to force that service center to repair my notebook under warranty, I paid too much for it.
