USB HDD Issues

#1 Post by JWadle » Sat Oct 01, 2005 7:51 pm

I am using a spare hard drive for backup via a USB enclosure (Apricorn) on my T43p. The drive is the same model as the internal HDD - 60GB 7200 Hitachi.

The problem I have is attaching the external drive to the USB in the port replicator. When I use that connection, the external driver powers up but the boot sequence hangs. If I wait until after the boot is complete before attaching the external drive via the port replicator, the drive is not seen by XP.

If I connect the external drive via either USB port on the T43p itself, the system boots normally and recognizes the external drive correctly.

Any ideas why it will not work through the port replicator USB port?

You might want to check the power actually available from the port replicator USB hub.

If the USB cable supplied with the USB drive enclosure has two USB connectors for getting extra power form a second USB port (most do), have you tried plugging that onto another USB outlet on the port replicator?

Cheers,

Bill
