laptop won't sleep. t42

#1 Post by sunman1 » Sun Oct 02, 2005 12:29 am

My new t42 2379-r1u will not sleep when I close the lid. It seems like it's trying to but never does. If I open it, it's blank. The sleep light never comes on. I have to hard boot it then. It could be an open com port but how do I check?

Sleep as in stand by or hibernate?

Do you have everything checked correctly in power options properties(hibernation enabled)

I mean standby. I have not tried the hibernate feature.

It's probably some program, process or service running that is preventing standby.

Try opening task manager by pressing ctrl + alt + del. Click on the processes tab and see what is consuming CPU other than system idle process. This may give you a clue as to the program causing the problem.

Next go to: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Look for event messages at the time you tried to go into standby. That might give you a clue to the problem.

Do this: Check if you had powerplay enabled. Am using modded ati video drivers for my T42, not IBM-modified ones, and I have to disable powerplay so my laptop sleeps while not using AC

Same problem here. Check the above and didn't see anything.
When i press Fn+F4 nothing happens and when I close, nothing happens either.

How do I:

Right click on an open area of the desktop. Choose: Properties > Settings > Advanced > POWERPLAY(tm).

BTW, I have Powerplay enabled (without Automatic color depth reduction), and I use Standby all the time without a problem.

Take a look in Event Viewer for events listed at the times you try to go into Standby. That might give you a clue as to the problem. Go to: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.

I've read that Alcohol 120% can cause Standby problems.
