Error 2010: are you guys still using the drive?

#1 Post by jlingo » Sun Oct 02, 2005 5:57 am

Do you guys keep using this drive with the error, or you go back to factory default drive?
for those who keep using the drive despite of 2010 error, any problems at all so far? I read you may experience data corruption in the long run.
I am still debating whether to keep using the new drive with error message. Thanks.

Editted:
Forgot to metion. my standard HD is 5400RPM 80GB Hitachi.
I replaced it with 7200RPM 60GB Hitachi.

See my sig. for specs of the drive.

I have a dual boot xp pro/ubuntu and did not encounter any data corruption.

Since i mostly standby my t43p instead of shutdown, the 2010 error msg is not too ennoying. But he will display each time i will boot from cold (i mean after a shutdown/hiberation).

I do not plan to restore the originial hw config. The toshiba drive i put is more silent, and not slower than the original 7k60 in practice. I made a special partition for "media" and the drive is able to write on it at an average speed of 22Mo/s which i find quite pretty for a 5400rpm...

I've updated the Hitachi 7K60 with the IBM firmware as described in another thread, so no messages anymore (but I boot most of the time from the original 7K60 that came with the TP).

In my case I am unable to update the firmware of the harddrive. it says my HDD already has the latest BIOS although in reality it is not true.
