choppy sound on T22

#1 Post by leasure98 » Fri Jul 02, 2004 3:13 pm

So glad I found this forum. I've been looking all over for an answer to
my problem.
I've owned this used (like new) T22 for two weeks and have all the updates
and latest bios from IBM and microsoft. Installed XP Pro. It's a rarity if I can get through one MP3 song without a skip or stutter. I don't have anything
running except Musicmatch. Task manager says about 15% maximum CPU usage and about 150 MB ram.
Thanks to anybody who reads this and may have a solution.

Control Panel -> Sounds & Audio Devices -> Audio Tab -> Advanced Button under Sound Playback -> Performance Tab.

There is a slider you can adjust for audio acceleration. Try reducing the acceleration level (sometimes the drivers don't work well) to see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks. Tried that but it didn't help. Could it be that I'm using IRQ 11 for 3 or more things? Does sharing this interrupt hurt? Modem, sound, and add in PCI all use IRQ11.
Thanks!

I had the exact same problem.

Download the XP supplement files from http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... MIGR-40062 and import the registry file CStateflags.reg.

Or if you want to save yourself the download and you feel confident with regedit then import the following into your registry.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Processor]
"CStateFlags"=dword:00000008

I'm having what sounds to be an identical issue with my Thinkpad R31! I'm so glad to find someone else with the same issue. I thought maybe my laptop was just a lemon with a weird unfixable problem. I have tried reinstalling windows, putting windows 2000 instead of xp, installing SP1, SP2. When I get home from work I am definitely going to try both of those suggestions and see if they work. I can't even play an mp3 or any sound it skips so bad my mouse gets stuck and the whole computer goes to crap. I'm so frustrated by this because when I mute the sound I can see how fast and smooth the computer WOULD run and it's so nice! Let me know PLEASE if you have any luck with this or any other solutions!

leasure98: as a FYI, Interrupt sharing in XP is perfectly normal.
