T23 and magenta spots all over screen

#1 Post by red_dragon » Thu Oct 06, 2005 3:30 am

Hey there, some of you might know that I've been wanting to sell my T23 in the forums. But these weird reddish dots keep showin up on the screen, so I can't sell it.
I've replaced the SXGA+ cable (gah expensive!!!) and also the inverter. Only thing it could possibly be now is backlight I suspect. But then again, why would the backlight cause the colors to go weird? I thought it'd just go dim or something...

Here it is after I press the spot indicated by the below photo.

I suspect that the connector on your LCD screen (where you connect one end of your SVGA cable) is faulty or loose.

Maybe you can try to insert a piece of paper in the frame to exert some pressure (at your own risk.. :) )

I belive those would be pressure marks... though I haven't seen them in red yet; mine has them in white... they kinda come and disappear after a while.

As I've been told by people about my thinkpad; the screen itself (lcd) needs to be replaced... I don't plan on doing that though for myself, as the cost out-weighs the advantage.

hmmm doesn't seem like pressure marks. Pressure marks would be white blobs across the screen if I'm not mistaken. For me sharp pixels turn red. After fiddling around with the portion where I indicated, the spots disappear. I would be more inclined to believe that it'd be a connector problem...but I've swapped the cable and inverter already, so hmmmmm. More ideas please. I'm a bit stuck hah.

Double check your connections on the back of the LCD.
Isn't there a small printed circuit board on the back of the LCD in that location where you press on the cover to make the red spots disappear? Maybe it has a bad connection somewhere?

hmm it's covered in black tape, but yes there seems to be a circuit board under there. I'll check it...

it is the onboard electronics of the LCD.
I don't know your manufacturer, but try to reseat all connectors on the back, open the seal tapes.

it helped on mine.
