how much battery life does your T42/43 have?

#1 Post by ddutta » Thu Oct 06, 2005 4:43 am

After reading a lot of T42/43 posts, it seems that the battery life is variable. Maybe we should collect some data on how much battery life etc. Some metrics would be

machine type:

display type:

actual cpu speed:

age of battery:

life of battery with
* wireless on, full brightness, speedstepped, browsing
* wireless on, 60% brightness, speedstepped, browsing
* wireless off, full brightness, speedstepped, reading pdfs, ppt etc
* wireless off, 60% brightness, speedstepped, doing wordproc
* wireless off, full brightness, cpu not speedstepped, DVD play
* wireless on, full brightness, not speedstepped ... for crunching

is this a good idea? if so, should we add more stuff to the list.

No.

There's too many variables, plus everyone uses their machine for different things. If someone is just using their TP for word processing then I expect it to last a lot longer than someone who does a lot of tasks at the same time (thus causing the HDD to eat up battery juice).

Under normal circumstances, I would say about 3 hours. But then again, I never time my computer time so 3 hours is just a guess.

T42
15" flexview at half brightness
wireless off
600Mhz @ .7v using CHC
gpu underclocked

I get a little over 4hrs. Unfortunately if I listen to mp3s the current draw goes up significantly, I wonder if there is not some way to load several songs into memory?
