Atheros AR5001X+ WLAN vs. 2200BG vs 2100

#1 Post by kuma » Thu Oct 06, 2005 10:38 am

I am about to buy one of the following, and don't know which I should get.
Please help.

2373GVU-No DVD burner and the Atheros AR5001X+ WLAN and Stereo speakers, wireless LAN antenna, ThinkLight, Bluetooth antenna $1920

2373GRU-DVD Burner and Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG and
Stereo speakers, wireless LAN antenna, ThinkLight, Bluetooth antenna $2000

2373GTU-DVD Burner and Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 and
Stereo speakers, wireless LAN antenna, ThinkLight $2000

I've read things about the 2200BG, and the Linksys WRT54G, I don't have one at home I use an Apple Airport Express. But between these three machines besides the DVD burner which is better.

I'm having a hard time deciding if I want a DVD burner or not, I think it would be nice but not a deal breaker.

Please Help.

This will be the last time this girl asks anymore questions about which T42 to buy.

Thanks.

well try to avoid Intel cards, I'm having serious problem with intel cards. Swapped with IBM a/b/g (anthros) card worked fine.

> avoid the Intel cards

I'm using Intel 2200 and 2915 Wifi cards and am absolutely delighted with their performance and support, so I have no hesitation in recommending them.

Cheers,

I'm on the IBM card side. Had the Intel 2200 for over a year. It worked okay but would very in speed all the time. Put in the IBM card and it locks in at 54 Mps. But. I think the Intel maybe had a little better range. On Netstumbler it seemed to find a few more networks in my area but they were on the fringe of reception anyway. The IBM also gives you the option of 802.11a.
