T42p fan - not doing its job - can I control it?

Hi all,

I have a T42p and have had problems with heat issues in the past. What I have recently noticed is that the fan doesn't seem to be going into 'high speed / maximal cooling' mode that it used to. As a result, my notebook is warming its way up to 87 degrees celcius until it goes into passive cooling mode and drops back down to 600MHz for safety.

My question is - is there any way that I can control the fan, either to make it 'spin faster' at a lower threshold, or manually increase the speed. Obviously I am looking for a software solution.

Ozman,

Check out the 'sticky': Managing Pentium-M Speed/Voltage with Software. A number of us have used that to drop our temperatures significantly. I've gone from high 50s to low 40 just by adjusting the voltage--with NO performance issues. Hope it works for you,

Is there any sort of fan control software for the T42 series? My fan does not seem to spin up like it used to, and I dont mind a bit of extra noise just to keep my laptop cool. I would like be able to have the option of running it all the time if need be.

i was looking for something like this for a while, but there isn't any windows software to manually control the fan (like i8fangui for dells). I think you can do it under linux though, I found a program once but didnt actually try it out in case i buggered my laptop.
