back up information using the built in IBM software, problem

#1 Post by danny_isr » Sun Oct 09, 2005 11:22 pm

Before i created the recovery CDs , i notice that there is a data backup utility that will let me backup the whole hard drive or specific files.

Then i created the recovery CDs.

today i went to setup the back software and i cannot find it anymore.
i knew that the recovery CDs menu will disappeared after creating those CDs . but why i cannot find the backup software ?

I’m looking in " PROTECT & RECOVERY"
i got there now only "Save configuration settings" and hard disk drive protection - active..." that's it , no more ?

is that normal ? am I’m looking in the right place ?

thanks Danny

It should be in one of two places.

Start > All Programs > Access IBM > IBM Rapid Restore Ultra 4.0
or
Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Rescue and Recovery

I am not sure about older versions of Rescue and Recovery, but with version 3 you can select specific files and/or folders to backup. Another option available is to choose specific files and/or folders to exclude.

i did choose specific files , but when the back up starts i notice it's backing up my whole drive.
i didn't find any way to do it differently ...

I don't know. If this is your first backup, the software is making a base backup, and perhaps will not let you backup only specific files. Only guessing.

yes first ,

yeah maybe you need to create backup for the whole system and then you can "update" only specific files
