Visible Backlight

On my T42 !4", if I place my eyes close to the left side of the screen, looking toward the right side where the LCD frame meets the cover, I can see a small gap between the screen and frame, and can actually see the back light. It has no effect on normal operation, and really doesn't bother me. My question is, do other see this and is it normal?

I don't have such a gap on my T41 screen. .... JDHurst

but is the back light visible on the innermost right side of the screen where it meets the frame?

Now that you mention it, I see the same thing on my T42 2378-FVU. Just on the right side (the left is fine). No idea if its normal or not!

As I stated in the original post, doesn't bother me/don't care.... just wanted to know if it was normal.. If it were not, it might have been indication of a defect and possible problem down the road.

Its visible on some machines and not on others (not on my T41p). I think it depends on the brand and type of display used. I remember seeing the light on my previous T30.

What about discoloration - is you screen 100% white all over when you set up a white background with max backlight. Mine is not, its slightly reddish at the lower left side - might be the backlight

I had a reddish tint on my T21 and IBM replaced the screen and it was back to normal, I think they said that it was normal for the screen to wear down after a period of time. Try to get it replaced if your machine is still under warranty otherwise they want about $800.00 to replace the screen.

Ah... it's barely noticable, so I better not replace it. Also, the machine is brand new, so I think its normal.
