Logitech Wireless MX3100 Has Issues with T42P in Minidock

I have an IBM Thinkpad T42p with a mini-dock running Windows XP Pro. I installed the Logitech software from the web (latest version) and connected the wireless receiver to the laptop directly (per Logitech's instructions). Everything worked fine. When I put the laptop into the mini-dock, I connected the USB to the mini-dock and everything worked as well. However, when I tried to perform a shutdown, standby or hibernate, the system tries to turn off (screen goes dark after "saving settings") but it doesn't finish (power down). Typically, when the system goes into standby mode, the "crescent moon" standby indicator light on the Thinkpad would light up. Bringing it back would require pressing the power button on the mini-dock.

Does anyone have this problem? When I disconnect the wireless receiver and try to put the computer into standby mode using the laptop's own keyboard (while it's still connected to the dock), it works.

I'm stumped - Logitech tech support simply told me that the wireless devices sometimes don't work with docking stations or port replicators. IBM was no help either.

Take a look in Event Viewer for clues. Go to: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer, to see logged events. Check for events that occur at the time you try to go into standby. While online you can click on the link in the event to get more info from Microsoft.

You can also look in Task Manager (ctrl + alt + del) and look for processes besides the System Idle process that seem to regularly use the CPU while you are doing nothing.

One thing you can try is to right click on the wireless adapter in Start > Connect to > your wireless adapter, and disable the adapter before you go into Standby. When you come out of Standby, you can then reenable the wireless adapter. You shouldn't have to do this, but it may be a solution for you.

Not really an option here. When the machine attempts to go into standby mode, the monitor turns off and the machine goes into some kind of limbo - it looks and acts like it's in standby, but the indicator light (the crescent moon) is not lit and pressing a key won't bring it back. I will look in the Even Viewer for clues, but ctrl+alt+del won't work at the time of the problem because none of the keys work at that point. Thanks.

No, I didn't mean to go into Task Manager while on Standby. I meant have the ThinkPad in the dock all systems running as you would have before you went into Standby. Now while you are not online or doing anything else, check in Task Manager for processes consuming CPU power - ignoring the System Idle process. This might indicate which process is preventing Standby - because it won't go idle.

Event Viewer can be checked anytime. It stores a running log until you choose to clear it.

Did as you suggested, but I'm not really sure what the various processes mean. Is there any additional guidance you might be able to provide? Which tab in Even Viewer? There are three - Applications, Security and System.

In Event Viewer, look in Applications and System. Security is not likely to be the problem. What you need to look for is an event that occurs at the exact time you try to go into standby. Click on the link in the event (while online) to get more information on it from microsoft.com.
