Mike, see I had been looking into a T30;from the start. And everyone says that they heat-up and are slow. And the batties don't last long.Which wouldn't matter to me about the battery.I'll be using it as a desktop replacement!!Kyocera wrote:I was just wondering what those that told you t30's are junk had to say.
I have a t30 and t42. Were there any specifics or just a general comment?

TPGD, if you get time check out the IBM certified used equipment, I paid $775 for this pristine T30. Has a new LCD, keyboard, the memory issue on the MB was updated, bought a Intel wireless card $20, extra 256M ram. I am running Network Hardware Control and it rarely goes above 50degrees, mostly stays around 45.. I have the 1.8G P4 M. I can't tell any difference in speed between this and my T42. The only real difference between this and my $2,000 T42 I hate to admit is that it does exaust more warm air, the bottom does get warm, but is actually kind of nice in your lap, like a heating pad, can't use the word hot. I use it every day to test network devices, going from customer to customer, in and out of the bag, installing, uninstalling software and it has been great! Don't rule this one out yet, I think there is a 2Ghz processor model also.
Good luck in whatever you purchase, I thinkpad you'll be happy.

You will probably be interested in reading the following thread. In particular, I would pay attention to what jdhurst posted. I respect his opinion on anything regarding the ThinkPad. I personally have no experience with the T30 so I can't really comment on it.Thinkpadgranddad wrote:I've alot of T30's in my price range. But,was told that T30's are junk!

Tell me;do you think the T30.Would make a good desktop replacement?See,I'am a disabled diabetic. With very limited walking ability. And I never more a lappy from my desk;anyhow. So,portabilty doesn't even matter at all.I need reliability, performance, and to be able to email, instant message, burn CD's and watch a DVD every now & then!!
My budget is at about $725-750.00(Max)

Clint, I got this T30 because of it smaller footprint than my T42 15". For a desktop replacement now that would be a different story, I would definately want a 15" it is easier to read tech manuals hour after hour with the larger screen and I think it would be more comfortable for you. I don't even know if they make a t30 with a 15" screen or not but if so I would say yes it would be a worthy contender for your specifications. The only thing mine does not have yet is the cd/dvd burner that is my next update. Have not watched a DVD on the t30 yet, have to try that.
