trackpoint broken on T22 ?

#1 Post by toddm » Sun Jul 04, 2004 7:38 am

Hi,

I had my keyboard replaced by IBM on my T22. They very nicely replaced the trackpoint cover with a nice new red one as well :D

However, as time has gone by the trackpoint cover has become a little worn so I tried to replace it. With my old keyboard it was simply a case of gently pulling at the trackpoint cover and wiggling it slightly to release it - however, with this one when it did come off - it brought a square piece of black plastic with it! I managed to get the plastic bit out of the cover and replaced it with a new red one then pressed it back on. It appears to be secure and it is working fine at the moment.

Is that meant to happen? Or do I have to "break" my keyboard everytime I wish to replace the trackpoint cover?

Thanks in advance,

David.

I certainly do not think you must `break' it each time. On my T22, I just pulled the red cap off and only got the cap, not the plastic square piece as well. Perhaps you pulled the cap off by holding the cap too far down the cap, and got the black plastic piece as well?

I can pinch the very top of the cap with my fingernails and get the cap only.

As long as it continues to work, I would suggest being very careful when replacing the cap. But one silly question, how often do you replace the cap? :-)
