Switching over to an X41...T42 broke =(

#1 Post by JLai » Sat Oct 15, 2005 4:16 pm

So my T42 (2378-FVU w/ 100 GB drive and 1.25 GB of memory) suddenly became erratic and repeatedly froze after 1 minute in windows...sometimes it would not even boot up. Every so often it gave me the bios beeps of one long followed by two short. So either the motherboard or the vid card is fried. I tested the memory chips in every way possible, so its defintely not that. I basically took the entire computer apart to make sure it wasn't just a loose connection or anything...still no luck.

In anycase, I have no time to fiddle with it as I am out of the country and need a computer. So I went ahead an ordered an X41 (2525-6HU...gonna upgrade to 1.5 GB of memory). I'm making an unexpected visit home in a couple weeks and picking up the X series/dropping off the T series for dad to send in to IBM and take care of.

My question is...the ultraslim DVD-CD-RW from the T series will not fit in the X series ultrabase, right? Also, my 100 GB 2.5" seagate momentus drive will not be able to fit in the X41 because it uses a 9.5mm drive, right? This is what the rep told me, but he did not seem to have answers to some of the questions I asked (For instance, he didn't know the 1.6M X41 was on the October TA list or when I would be able to order it)...so I just want to confirm these questions with the forum.

Another thing is, I placed my order yesterday and have yet to receive an e-mail confirmation of my order. I can't remember if this happened when I ordered my T42...But I remember something similiar. I don't have my order number with me right now (just my customer number), so I guess I'll check the system tomorrow. But I was wondering how long it took everyone else to get confirmation e-mails of their orders.

Thanks ahead.

I believe the X4 Ultrabase does take the Ultrabay Slim optical drives, just like your T42.

You are out of luck on the hard drive, though. X4* laptops only have room for little bitty 1.8" IDE drives.

Your CD/DVD UltraBay slim drive wil work in the UltraBase. You could also get the second HDD adapter for the hard drive, and use it in the UltraBase (not the best solution, but it would work).

You could also consider X31/32 since it takes the 2.5" drive.
