System performance profiles

My CPU always seems to be throttled down. I tried a number of cpu info applications, as well as other programs, like VMWare, and under each of the power profiles below, the CPU speed is always at 598MHz.

Hope/Office Desk
Portable/Laptop
Presentation (with Projector)
Supoer Power Saver
Presentation
Always On
Minimal Power Management
Max Battery
ThinkPad Default
Disable Shut-off Timers
High System Performance
High Battery Performance

I suppose it could be one of a few things. First look in Device Manager for any yellow exclaimation marks or red X's. Also choose: View > Show hidden devices.

If you don't see anything there, I would uninstall the IBM ThinkPad Power Management Driver, IBM ThinkPad Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management Features, and IBM ThinkPad Configuration. Reboot and reinstall the above again. You could use ThinkVantage Software Installer for this.

It could possibly be the video driver. You could try and uninstall it, reboot, then reinstall it.

The above ideas are how I would approach finding and solving your problem.

Though I seem to recall seeing a Max Performance profile. Anyone see that on their T42?
