My new T42 won't play DVDs! arrgh!

#1 Post by Matt » Mon Jul 05, 2004 1:11 am

2nd EDIT: Okay, we're back to square one. My 2373-3VU T42 isn't recognizing commercial DVDs when inserted into the drive. It reads and burns CDs just fine. It fails all the DVD movie tests in PC Doctor. I've tried it with three different DVDs, it recognized one while the PC Doctor tests were running, and I was able to watch the content with WinDVD, but this was a singular event. Did I get a bad drive? Anybody else having trouble with their T42 drive?

Sounds like a problem. Call IBM. They will ship you another DVD drive.

I've seen the same problem myself. Call IBM today and you'll have a replacement drive tomorrow.

I also bought 2373-3vu T42 and have problem with my DVD burner. I can not get the burner to read any discs I put in. The drive is recognize by the thinkpad, but it just can't access it. I believe it is a defective burner. I called IBM twice and finally they agree to send me a replacement burner tomorrow and I should receive it on Wednesday. It also fails all the DVD tests on PC Doctor.

If it won't read commercial DVDs, it may be hardware locked out of region 1...calling IBM for a replacement is the right move.

Replacement drive (and Thinkpad recovery CDs :) ) on the way. My first encounter with IBM tech support, it was a painless transaction and the tech support dude was actually American! Shocker! Took no persuasion to get a replacement drive sent, all I did was explain the problem and that the drive failed the PC-Doctor tests, and he said they'd replace the drive.
