Hi... I've got a Thinkpad, T21 I think, it's not written on it, all I can see is 'type 2647' if that's a clue.
I want to know if I should always run the thing from the power source if it's available, regardless of the state of charge of the battery?
Or should a full battery be used and allowed to run down before connecting?
Connecting seems to automatically commence recharging, I haven't detected a way as yet of switching that off and on.
regards,
ab
Use the Power Supply for preference at all times?
Always use the power cord (plug it in) when possible. Remove battery while plugged to avoid trickle drain and heat buildup. Never stress a lithium battery by draining it fully. Keep the battery about 60% charged minimum. This includes storage. These tips will maximize battery life.

It may be a good idea to plug it in to your UPS when you remove the battery. Way to many power outlets in any building anywhere, anytown, have inconsistent power delivery, anywhere from %5 to %15 voltage drops are actually common. The bad thing is also amperage fluctuations, also false, or improperly wired grounds, no ground, ground with more the .5 volts, believe me all this is common. Bigger devices with bigger discreet components can tolerate more. Laptop power supplies are tiny and will get stressed over time if you don't keep a constant correct power supplied.
