about to clone T4x with ibm predesktop area

#1 Post by susanna » Fri Oct 21, 2005 10:17 am

the 3 settings, normal, disabled..(what was the 3rd again)...

anyway, about to clone a drive where the person wants to have the ibm predesktop cloned, so by just setting it to disabled it becomes visible to the OS and this partition, while not active is automatically cloned - correct?

I did read the ibm notes but they were a bit vague

Hi there,

All I did to clone the harddrive was to use Acronis software, and just follow instructions that came with acronis software, you don't really need to change anything in the BIOS, disable option. Leave them as they are and use Acronis, it has been a great success.

I no longer use Acronis (used both versions 7,8 and 9) as I found that Ghost 8.5, Snapshot and Winimage are faster and much simpler to use

My question was only related to the predesktop area "make visible" part as it relates to having the ibm predesktop cloned

For normal disk cloning this is of course not an issue as the drive will work no matter what you do to the hidden partition

When I cloned, I also copied the predesktop area though.
I failed to clone the harddrive with ghost 9 and T43p. I have always been using ghost and this time after receiving T43p I failed to copy the predesktop area, hidden partition. That's why I gave Acronis a try.

Ghost 9 is a piece of crap compared to Ghost 8.5 Corp Edition

..but... back to my original question, which is the setting that the predesktop area need to be in? is it "disabled" ?
