T42 vs T43 - T43 less $$?

#1 Post by jeffcrilly » Sat Oct 22, 2005 2:00 pm

So I just priced out a T42 and T43. The T43 comes out costing less...

T43 = $1,710.60 2668A1U - SXGA+, 1GB, 60GB, 1.86GHz 2MB L2 Cache 533MHz FSB, CDRW-DVD

T42 = $1,739.00 2373H6U - SXGA+, 1GB, 60GB, 1.80GHz 2MB L2 Cache 400MHz FSB, CDRW-DVD

Wassup with that?!

So the T43 is actually cheaper? Wouldnt have expected that.
I did note that T43 memory is $10 less for the 1GB upgrade.

Possibly its less $$ cuz its really a lenovo machine?

Gives me heartburn ordering up a T42.

jeff

I'd consider the $20 difference a wash, and go for the T42. You get a machine known for stability and silence instead of a take-your-chances fan-noise express.

If I had the choice again I would certainly by the T42 instead of the T43.

don't forget about the free 6-cell battery you get with the H6U - that's worth more than $20.

I also prefer the T42... silent fan, runs cool, no 2010 bios error message, etc.

Intel doesn't make a 2215 card. they make a 2200bg card and a 2915abg card. anyway, the IBM 11a/b/g II card (made by Atheros) is superior to any of the Intel cards.

I feel stupid for not getting the T42
And the T43 isn't an Lenovo machine, its IBM
Theres no differance vs IBM and Lenovo now basically (Same people, just new upper managment).
Same qualiity control people.
The T43 just uses a newer chipset that apparently requires an IDE bridge and such. But its a nice laptop as well.

Again, I would go for the T42 for battery life + silence, but if you need a bit more power, go with the T43

Also note - IBM prices their newer laptops at a lower price for some reason (And Lenovo kept the trend)

T42 :) T43 seems to the [censored] child with new features not properly implemented (SATA, Xpress etc.)

LOL.
I have two ThinkPads that are pretty much the same (check my signature) and can vouch for the fact that the T43 seems to be a bit hotter than the T42 which is ice cold at times (no kidding). :)
