disappointed with new t43, fix stuck pixel?

#1 Post by kgorilla » Tue Oct 25, 2005 1:20 pm

just received my t43, 2668 model and it has a pixel that shows red when the screen is black. the spot is not visible when the color is white. currently running that psp video in a loop on the spot. hopefully it will unstick, for this much money i really require 0 dead pixels.

i'll send it back for another if the pixel isn't fixed after about 8 hours of the video deal.

anyone here had luck doing this?

heard the fan come on once, was louder than i expected...

edit: i have a samsung 14.1 SXGA+ display

I believe there is a requirement set by IBM/Lenovo as to how many stuck pixels define a "Defect" that can replaced under Warranty...

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4U9P53

It seems as if they state that the minimum quantity of defective pixels required for LCD replacement for an SXGA+ LCD Screen on a T43 Laptop is around 11 Bright Dots, 13 Dark Dots, and 16 Bright and Dark Dots.

I haven't run the PSP Video to unstick a Pixel, but if it works...Great
If, however, it is a Problem with that tiny LCD Thin Film Transistor; then the Video will not help at all.

Hope all goes well :)

I was told by the IBM/Lenovo Rep, If you are within the 30 day warranty period, you may return it for ANY reason.

I even specifically asked if this applied to dead pixels, the answer was yes.

EDIT: Then again I should read your post more clearly next time, as it looks as if you knew that already. . .

Hopefully it won't come to that, but i'm afraid it's looking that way. I just spotted another one that shows blue when the screen is black.. it's less noticable, but still unacceptable.

my present notebook i could swear had dead pixels when i got it in nov of '04, sometime during this year this seem to have disappeared, i couldn't have returned this toshiba for dead pixels anyway..

The red one is on the LH 3rd of the screen near the center. the blue one is in the lower RH corner above where the task bar is.

so i ended up sending it back today, i'm on the west coast and i can get it back to them by friday, possibly get my replacement by tuesday of next week. told lenovo exactly why i wanted to exchange it.

i have to pay for shipping back to them, which is somewhat annoying, and my sales rep informed me they wouldn't deem it defective, but that meant little to me. He mentioned there was a website with a policy of 7 dead pixels to be considered defective. perhaps my old t43 will end up getting sold as factory second or something..

this is thinkpad #1, hopefully #2 is free of bad pixels. saw a poll on here, the majority had none.

Bummer about the 2 bad pixels. I agree with you completely that expensive, high quality machines should have no dead pixels at all.
