Hey guys,

NewEgg has it available for $105. If I remember correctly, the previous price was approx. 118 bucks.

So tell me, will this stick work in most T series machines?

The reason I ask is that I want to add another 1GB to my T42p 2373-Q1U. The stick referenced on NewEgg.com shows Model #: CT12864X335 while Crucial's Website recommends Crucial Part Number: CT433386 for IBM ThinkPad T42 Series (Type 2373). However, I much prefer the $108 at NewEgg to the $178.19 at the Crucial website.

So, I guess the question is....will the $108 stick work in my 2373-Q1U? Is there anything special about each model that requires subtle differences in memory?

Anyone?

I am also wondering: why such a large difference in price?

perhaps the warranty is not the same?

it says OEM but still "lifetime warranty" at newegg....

In a related thread, DIGITALgimpus said:

"NewEgg RAM is typically OEM, hence the lower price. Also no guarantee it is the right one (unlike when you order from crucial.com)."

Also, here's something very interesting: crucial.com prices for the 1GB RAM for (all prices before discount)

T42 (2373) CT433386 $197.99
T42 (2378) CT392185 $197.81
T42 (2379) CT433383 $203.93

If I remember correctly, these differ only by being regular models (2373) or express models (2378 with 1 year, 2379 with 3 years warranty). But do they need different RAM?! Looks like a marketing strategy (or not well-organized database) to me. Also, you can find this on the crucial.com site:

CT12864X335 $197.99

which is exactly the same model number as the RAM that you can get from newegg. I went ahead and ordered from newegg, hope that all goes well!

It works on all the laptops that using DDR2700 @ 400mhz. of course include the whole t42 series. different band doesn't matter.

Nirvana0001,

just to avoid confusion: you mean DDR PC2700 at 333 MHz, right?

That's right. He means DDR PC2700 at 333MHz, intended for a system with a 400MHz FSB (as opposed to Sonoma's 533Mhz FSB).
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

Yup. It's for the T42 (and not the T43). The T43 systems use DDR2 RAM @ 533Mhz.
