At last, normal fan behavior

Whooohoohoo

My t40's fan is now working normally!

I did these four things in the last 2 weeks, for each step the fan got better:

1. Installed wlan driver ver. 1.2.3.14 (for Intel 2100 802.11b)

2. Installed omega radeon driver 2.6.71 (powerplay activated at all times)

3. Installed power management driver 1.32

4. Installed BIOS 3.19

I can really say that I am very happy with the new fan behavior.
Fan kicks in when CPU temp reaches 48 deg.
Fan stops when CPU temp reaches 42 deg.
Occasionally the fan may run even if the CPU hasn't reached 48 deg. but it stops after a short while. Exactly like I expect it to function.

I did 3 and 4, with no effect. If my wireless card is on, the fan stays on ALL the time. If I turn the wireless card off, the fan will turn on and off.

I experimented with the Omega drivers a few months ago, but they crashed my machine when resuming from suspend and hibernate.

Thanks troubadix... I gave your modified Catalyst 5.10s a try and they seem to work just fine with hibernate and suspend. I like the ability to control the speed of the graphics chip on AC as well

Well, I suppose the a/b/g that you have is more power consuming than my intel 802.11 b. I guess I'll have to stay away from the upgrade I planned. Bye, bye, intel a/b/g

Btw, I'm now using the troubadix tweaked ati driver . My experience is that it is more stable than the omega drivers
