Wireless mouse connection
Wireless mouse connection
Hello, I'm sorry to be back asking for help again so soon, but I just had a problem with the part that connects into the left side of the laptop that makes the wireless mouse work. It broke off.
I know that I will probably have to just buy a whole new mouse as I don't think this can be repaired, but my question is, since it's only been about six months since I have had this, does it happen often, and is there any way to prevent it? I am not hard on my computer, and I try to be conscious of this portruding out at the side, but it still happened.
The one I have is the LogiTech Optical mouse for Notebooks. It would be expensive to have to replace this often. I really need the mouse as the other methods are too difficult and slow for me.Is there maybe another model out there that would have a different way or place of connecting that would not be so vulnerable?
I appreciate your help,
sand

Well, I don't know how much Help I can provide, but I will give it a shot
If you want a Small Notebook Mouse that is Wireless, you could go for this:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ ... NTID=10916
I don't know which one of the T Series you have or whether or not you have Bluetooth. If you do, this, or any other Bluetooth Mouse, would be a Good Idea since I assume that what broke off on the side was a Wireless Adapter of some form and using Bluetooth right off the Thinkpad would be a better Idea.

Wireless mouse connection
Christopher and Eggman,
I have the T42 2379 DXU with Bluetooth, but I just went to a LogiTech's Wireless Mouse Bluetooth forum and they seem to be having a lot of problems with them, and say the tech support is bad.
I'm not very computer literate, so I can't do a lot of technical changing and such, so maybe I will just have to buy another wireless mouse similar to what I have and try to be more conscious of the problem next time.
I even wondered if a mouse from another keyboard would be adaptable somehow, but I couldn't find anywhere on the ThinkPad Configuration site that showed a place to connect it. Maybe I could attach another keyboard to the laptop and use the mouse with that? I'm such an amateur with all the technology, sorry.I read and research a lot online and in my books, but I don't understand how to follow what they are saying.
Thank you for any responses or suggestions,
sand

If it was me, I would go to one of the local stores, like Best Buy, Circuit City, Micro Center, CompUSA, etc. and pick up a bluetooth mouse and try it. If you have problems, just bring it back. Just make sure before you buy that you do have the option of returning the item. Also read and follow any installation instructions BEFORE you try the mouse (just to be on the safe side).
If my laptop had bluetooth, I would probably use a bluetooth mouse.

One tiny word of Caution here
This may just be me, but I wouldn't install the Drivers for any of the "Special" buttons on an External Mouse. My main reason for saying this is that I got an External Mouse (Microsoft Optical IntelliExplorer) with a Rocker Wheel and and Internet Navigation Buttons on the side. Installing the Drivers for these *wipe out* the UltraNav Drivers and take away many of the features of both the TrackPoint and TouchPad. I then got back to the point before I installed the drivers, thanks to a recovery image I made beforehad, and noticed that the Internet Navigation Buttons worked just fine; perhaps it was because the Thinkpads already have Forward/Backward Buttons right near the Arrow Keys.
I have tried many Bluetooth devices with my T43 (other Thinkpads, PowerBooks, Cell Phones, etc) and I have yet to experience a Problem; I haven't, however, had experience with Bluetooth Mice. Yet, in my way of Thinking at least, the Mouse is always sending data to the Bluetooth receiver in the Thinkpad. This "Active Connection" would require some form of Specialized Drivers or Programs I should imagine. Then again, I might be wrong on that since I was "supposed" to have a special $40 program for my Motorola RAZR to talk with my Computer, turns out all I needed was Bluetooth.
Like GomJabber said, I would try one out and get a good feel for what works and what you like plus what doesn't work and what you don't like. After you have done that, you essentially have a set of data points to go out and ask a Vendor "Here, this is what I want. Do you have it?" Then they can say either "Yes" or "No" and not have to fish around for compatibility on this or that system.
