X40 with 91P7315 (Not 7917319) Bluetooth/modem

#1 Post by Tom B » Wed Oct 26, 2005 5:08 pm

I poked around on this site for a while when I had trouple getting the modem on this card set up and it seems that nobody has commented on it before.

So, for anyone who is interested and wants to save a little money, I can tell you that the 91P7315 card works fine with an X40. The more expensive 91P7319 card is not required.

However, note that you must download the modem drivers for the X31. The X40 modem drivers seem to recognize the modem and install automatically, but they will not function properly. The native X40 Bluetooth drivers/apps work just fine, and the Microsoft stuff works as well.

The Bluetooth antenna remains the same.

As for those expensive overlay stickers, you can see where the Bluetooth LED is by watching carefully to the right of the WiFi LED in a darkened room as the Bluetooth radio is turned on. Then you can just use a small drill (with two fingers, not with the DeWalt) or knife point to carefully put a small hole in the existing sticker. More than adequate.

Thanks Tom. I just picked up an X40 for my wife and I was going to do a Bluetooth upgrade soon. I'll price it out and if it's a significant difference I'll buy the other card and use your suggestion. I also agree the clearplate isn't really needed except for very picky folks. I'm good with an razor.
