Waiting for 2668-P2U

#1 Post by jjfcpa » Fri Oct 28, 2005 1:40 pm

My TP 2668-P2U should be delivered today from Cost Central. They only had two in stock when I ordered yesterday. Couldn't resist the 100K 7200RPM hard drive. That and the 2.26 mhz. CPU. Hopefully, those two will provide a little speedier performance than my current TP.

Can't wait to get it up and going.

Anyone recommend some small, quality, powered speakers. If there is one thing that I have always been disappoined in, it's the sound volume that the TP delivers. I tried to watch a movie on a plane with head phones and could barely hear it even with the sound cranked up all the way.

Do they have head phones that will boost the sound volume?

You mean 2.26 Ghz, right? :)

Yes, that's exactly what I mean.

It arrived on Friday and I just spent the better part of a day getting everything installed. I have just two comments so far...

1. It's fast... noticeably faster than my T43 2.0 with 80 gig 5400 rpm drive.

2. It's cooler... much, much cooler than T43. It's probably got something to do with the fan speed. Seems to be a little higher speed and consequently, not as quiet. Not annoying, but in a quiet room, you can definitely hear it.

Get a good set of canalphones, like the Shure e3cs or Etymotic ER6i (~$150 or $100 respectively). These are basically like earplugs with earphones built in...they will cut out about 15 dB-25 dB of outside noise and work wonders on planes and other noisy environments (much better than those active noise cancelling phones, since they block out all frequencies and are more comfortable to wear). Just make sure you insert them correctly--if you hear the outside world easily, you probably didn't put them in correctly.

You sounds like Lenovo design engineer......... who screwd up T43p with lousy fan and cooling system.
