Problem with T42 SXGA LCD! Argue or buy a new LCD?

#1 Post by genemark » Fri Oct 28, 2005 7:45 pm

Last week, my T42 was not displaying any recognizable things on the LCD but everything worked fine if I projected onto an external monitor. As my machine is still under 1 year manufacture warranty, I sent it back to EZ serve for repair expecting my laptop to be fixed. I called up EZ serve to check on the status of repair today and found out it was on a billable hold!! It turns out that the technician noted that there is a crack on LCD. Something about the fact that there are 3 layers to LCDs and the middle part of my LCD panel is cracked. Therefore, this damage is not covered by the warranty. I did not notice any physical damages to the panel from outside. And honestly, I really did not think that I had dropped my laptop, ever. But I don't think I can fight it with IBM either. They would charge me about 850 to get the LCD panel replaced. My questions are. 1) Is it likely that the middle layer of LCD is cracked and I cannot notice it from outside? 2) Where would be a good place to buy a LCD panel. ( I found a lot of stores online when I typed in 11p8348, which is the part number given on IBM for my thinkpad. However, I want a reliable and reasonably priced source to make the purchase). Sorry for the long message, but any answers/recommendations would be very appreciated.
