Got my T43, need help with restoring

#1 Post by nrgetic01 » Sat Oct 29, 2005 2:14 pm

I know this has been discussed probably over 100 times because I did a search but I STILL dont understand (so call me stupid!)

My T43 came with 40GB 5200RPM drive, I have a spare 60GB 7200RPM. I watched to switching the drive and get Windows XP on there. I see that there are NO restore disks, I am using the recovery console right now and doing a back up? of all my files on the original 40GB drive to my external USB drive. Then I will swap the drives out and do restore on my 60GB is that right? Or am I doing something wrong? Please advise!

Thank you in advance.

Seems like you should have the option of making some restore disks, thought all t4x could? I have made restore disks, put in the new hard drive boot to the recovery environment and not had to use an external drive. If you can I would recommend making the disks in the event of a catastrophe.

I didnt see any option to make restore disks. Also I just put my 60GB 7200RPM and it said "make sure the drive is supported and your using the latest BIOS" ahhh where the heck do I make restore disks.

go to start, programs, access IBM, create recovery disks, create rescue media. The rescue media is one disc and the recovery is around six or seven.

Where Kyocera wrote to look to create these disks is where they used to be. Depending upon how up-to-date your system is, you may find the following instead. Check by going to Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Create Recovery Media. Once you launch that, you will see the option to create the Rescue Media and the Product Recovery Discs.

I know, the terminology gets confusing. Read carefully the difference between the use of Rescue vs Recovery.
