T43p Does not alway return from standby
T43p Does not alway return from standby
My T43p has had trouble right from the start returning reliably from StandBy. Sometimes, it seems when it has been left in StandBy for longer periods of time, the Battery and Power light will blick on and the Sleep Icon off but the screen never comes on and the machine does not respond to any keystrokes. This is after opening the Cover. This happens whether or not the machine is on power and whether or not the machine was sent to StandBy by closing the cover or using the Windows shutdown option.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Mark
P.S. other than being slightly heavy. I probably should not have gotten the 15in model. I very much like. It is a worthy sucessor to my venerable 600x and my earlier 4 other Thinkpads.

T43p Does not alway return from standby
I had the same problem but with slightly different characteristics. My new T43/p that arrived in mid-September would properly enter and return from standby when it first arrived. Then, after a few weeks, it would no longer come back. After a few minutes the blue screen of death (BSOD) would appear and the machine would reboot. The event log showed an error in the ATI driver. Actually the error was a loop in the driver. XP picked that up and rebooted. I finally decided to see if the driver for the video had changed because hibernation was becoming too tedious. It turned out that the Windows Update function on the Microsoft web site had downloaded and installed a revised ATI driver. When I did a roll back of the ATI driver to the one that came with the machine, standby started working again. There must be a problem with the driver on the Microsoft web site. I am a happy camper now that I can suspend or go into standby. You may want to try rolling back your driver.

I do have a standby issue but solved it by disabling powerplay
but am not using IBM drivers, am using modded ATI catalyst 5.10 ones, so maybe thats it

I also had this problem. With a too recent ati driver downloaded from win update. Go in the device manager and revoke the driver to return to the old driver has solved the problem.
So wait for the next driver release before updating
By the way : i had to retrieve this driver : 6.14.10.6497 (30.11.2004) for making my standby/resume to work.

Yeah, exactly it is. Just roll back to the previous driver version and it works fine.

Try pressing the Esc key. I had a similar issue where standby would come back sometimes and sometimes not.
The times it doesn't come back I did the tried and true keyboard smacking (only gently though heh) and did all sorts of combos including CtrlAltDel.
CtrlAltDel seems to get the computer hdd doing something but the screen still remains blank, but when I hit the Esc key then the computer lcd comes on after a second o two. So now when I have the same issue, I just skip all that other keyboard bashing and press Esc, and wait, and it comes back.
Try that next time and see if it helps.

I had similar problems with my previous TP, an R40.mdlewis wrote:My T43p has had trouble right from the start returning reliably from StandBy. I found that if I resorted to a "System restore" point back a few days when it was working right, the problem went away. It often occurred when I did a lot of processing by changing programs, hunting for something that made many hopscotches about the system. So I suggest a system restore point when things were nice.
I have had this T43 for a week now, so far, so good.
I fortunately ordered the 14" T43, mainly because the R40, same size, worked well for me and was really big enough already to croud my bag. I figured hat since the T43 had 40% more pixels, and was 1" thinner, it was an ergonomic winner.('')
