Does anyone know if I can disable/control the fan on my sisters (otherwise perfect) T40p? The original is busted and makes an obnoxious noise whenever it is running.... I'm waiting on the new fan FRU to arrive from IBM (only $34.00 shipping included from IBM...which is not too bad), but in the meantime she needs to use it in the college library. Anyone?

So easy. Turn off WLAN, reduce the graphics core voltage (Powerplay) and use CHC. And the notebook will turn silent after a few minutes. Enable HDD spin down, and the Thinkpad is dead silent. So easy...
Now, how do I more exactly do the three things you suggested?
1) I know how to turn off the WLAN (quite easy)
2) How do I reduce the graphics core voltage (Powerplay)
3) And how do I use CHC (and what is CHC)

I have a T42 2373 1,7GHz 1GB RAM with a 32MB ATI Radeon 7500.

And another question to all of you (sorry if it already has been answered):
4) My T42 is making a bit too much noise, when it's docked. It seems like the fan is running constantly. I don't how it behave itself, when it's out of the dock (yet). So the problem is when it's docked. Is it at all possible to make it go "totally" silent? I've seen/heard an iBook and it is "totally" silent! Is it normal for a T42 (2373) to make "so" much noise when it's docked (and not docked)? It's not like the noise is unbearable, but it would be nice if it was "totally" silent (no fan sound).

Excuse my written English - I'm a Dane ;)

Thanks for the help, Kristian
