anyone know how to swap the Fn and Ctrl keys?

#1 Post by sthapit » Tue Nov 01, 2005 1:28 pm

I keep hitting the function key instead of control coz all the keyboards I've used in the past have the control key in the bottom left. It's a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless.

Does anyone know of a way to swap/reprogram the keys?

Thanks!

I feel your pain (ctrl should really be at the edge to maximize Fitts' Law), but I think the Fn-key is "hard-coded" and can't be reprogrammed. Hopefully someone proves me wrong

You might try KeyTweak-- http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/ --although even he comments that remapping the Fn key is probably a 'no go' . . . I've used this to 'remap' my right ALT key to a Windows key. It seems to use a lot less resources than the IBM utility.

From the web-page: "Keytweak is a free keyboard remapper for Windows NT/2000/XP. It makes use of Microsoft's Scancode Map registry key to remap your keyboard. VB6 Runtime files are required, but are already present on Windows 2000/XP."

"Can I remap my Fn key on my laptop?" Probably not. The Fn key translates scancodes before KeyTweak can see them.
