Performance diff of 5400 vs. 7200rpm

What is the performance difference btn the 80 gig 5400rpm and the 60 gig 7200rpm? I'm thinking that I want the extra 20 gigs of memory for music and files. Is there going to be a big difference? I don't need the fastest machine ever but don't want something slow either.

In my experience the 80Gb 5400 rpm drive works very well and adequately fast. I have the 60Gb 7200 rpm drive in my T41 and I like it, but if space is more important, I think you will be happy with the 80Gb drive. ... JD Hurst

not a huge difference, but it is noticable. Remember people have been and still are using 5400RPM drives in their desktops

I have the 80 GB 5400 RPM model and works very fast

I once used a T42 with the 60 7200 RPM drive and didnt noticed that night and day difference, and that extra 20 GB are very important

If your someone like me who does lots of i/o and reads/writes large sums of files (compiles large software). You appreciate the extra RPM's. Makes things much faster.

But for many, it's not really going to give much of a boost.

What this guy said. I have the 60gig 7200 and frankly, couldn't go back to a slower drive. So, go for it, you have nothing to lose.

I have a 2668-P2U with the 100 gig 7200 rpm drive and I previously was using a T43 with the 80 gig 5400 rpm drive. Being naturally impatient, I notice things like long boot times and delays when loading applications.

All I can say is I will never settle for anything but a 7200 rpm drive. The difference is HUGE in my estimation. Boot times are cut down dramatically and both laptops are configured precisely the same. Application loading is almost instantaneous. Saying it's "noticeable" is putting it mildly in my opinion.

I waivered when spending in excess of $ 3300 for this particular TP, but now I'm smiling everytime I turn it on.

It also appears that Lenovo has tightened up the keyboard because it seems even more precise than it used to be. I'm a touch typist and the keyboard is why I use a TP. I know it's new, but my T43 was only a few months old and once again, the difference is more than noticeable. I like it much better.
