No difference. Both of them are 72W Slim AC Adapters.

Another power supply question

#3 Post by jsmit86 » Wed Jul 07, 2004 9:03 pm

I have a spare 3.36A power supply from a Thinkpad 600.

If I use this occaisionally at work to power the T42 with AC, with this create any problems?

Official word from IBM is NO, DON'T USE IT.

I have about 6 of those and wanted to use them (I like to have one everywhere I spend time).

IBM advises against it because when the battery is fully charged, the laptop is powered directly from the AC Adapter. The T42 circuitry is attuned to the voltage from the new adapter, and is undefined (at best) with alternate voltage.

He sounded like he knew what he was talking about. As someone who is trained in EE, I am not taking a chance.,

P.S. You can get compatable 72W IBM adapters at deep discount on ebay. I got 3 for only $56 shipped. :-)
